Intimate Area Check-up

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are transmitted from person to person mainly through sexual contact.  They present a serious public health problem since they have high morbidity and mortality, and also have significant socioeconomic cost. STDs have increased over the past years on a global basis, particularly syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. This finding requires urgent action to limit their spread and increase precaution measures across the population.

Public health policies aim at improving infrastructure and systems related to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with STDs. Early diagnosis and subsequent treatment, play an important role not only in personal health but also in preventing the further transmission of infections. However, they require cultural and behavioural changes. Scientific research showed that approximately 30% of people with STDs delay seeking medical help for more than a week, with significant effects on their health and the health of their sexual partners. The most important reasons for this delay as they self-report, are the lack of time or uncomfortable situations with their partner. Nevertheless, many of them say that they would be willing to be examined faster if that was in their own space/home.

Docandu understands the importance and the consequences of such a public health issue and offers the “Intimate Area Check-up” that provides a digital examination tool for STD. Through this platform, a user can completely anonymously receive valuable advice on a potential problem of the sensitive area that concerns him/her. The in-house dermatologists – venereologists of docandu, receive all the necessary information from the history that user shares, and examine the potential skin problem, in a digital way using docandu’s platform. In such a way, they can provide medical advice to the user to either reassure him/her or to motivate him/her to seek immediate specialized help.
